Remember to use all of the tools you have learned to date, i.e. vary your sentence length, use descriptive words, help the writer to engage their senses

4. Listen to song I am a Rock by Paul Simon

5. Analyze the lyrics of the song - poem

Choose one of the following assignments: 1-2 paragraphs in length - 150 words

1. Discuss the theme of one, two or all three of the poems.

2. Write a letter to the author of I am a Rock to tell him what you think and to give him advice.

Be sure to state the authors name and title of the poem, quote an appropriate line or two, write in present tense and show your depth of thought.

1. Review handouts on how to write a better paragraph, Syntax and vague verbs.

2. Using notes from the travel documentary write descriptions using:

  • five words
  • a telegraphic sentence
  • a short sentence
  • a medium sentence
  • a long sentence

Combine these to form a paragraph.

Write a second paragraph and combine with the first.

Use this to help edit and revise your original descriptive essay.
